Our mini get away started with the drive from Canberra to Jenolan Caves via Oberon which took approx 3 hours. This drive is beautiful, much more scenic then taking the main highway but be aware there are some pot holes and rough spots.
At Jenolan Caves we bought tickets for the 11.30am Chifley Cave tour which was an hour long guided tour through a beautiful cave. There are several cave options but we didn’t have the time to be picky and research and wait for the one we wanted. After the tour we had some lunch at the little cafe which was nothing fancy but good enough. The cafe also had wifi which came in handy. After lunch we walked back along the road and through the main cave to the other side where there is a beautiful little blue lake. Literally this lake is a cute blue colour and worth the little walk. The whole Jenolan village is worth a visit I thought. The buildings are so cute and full of character.
From Jenolan it was another hour drive further through the countryside to Katoomba where we were staying for the next few days. Seeing as we weren’t able to check in just yet we decided to check out Scenic World for the rest of the afternoon. For $39 per person you are able to spend as long as you like in the park and ride the attractions as many times as you like which I thought was pretty good. We rode the railway, cableway and skyway but I think we all loved the railway the most seeing as it is the steepest railway in the world.
By 5pm we were exhausted from the days activities and decided to check in to our Airbnb, grab some groceries from the local Woolworths and eat in before heading off to bed.
