Mt Tennent. Namadgi National Park. Canberra.

To be honest I hadn’t even heard of Mt Tennent until I was about to hike it.

The walk starts from Namadgi Visitors Centre which is a short drive south towards Tharwa past Lanyon Market Place (between Banks, Conder and Gordon) where we met and stopped on our way for snacks at Woolworths.

We started our hike at 10.30am along with a surprising number of other people. The hike is approximately 8km return and climbs approximately 750m in 4kms. The first half of the hike is the easiest only climbing at a medium incline. The second half is quite hard made up of mostly stairs and finally a really steep walk up a direct access road to the top. At the stop the view is quite nice and their are some large smooth rock area where many people where having some lunch. The return walk is easy seeing as it is completely downhill but be careful not to trip on the stairs or roll your ankle. We reached the visitors center again at 2.30pm so 4 hours all up which wasn’t a bad first effort considering we spent at least 20 minutes at the top having lunch.

Overall it was a good walk, great views, interesting track and a good work out. I would recommend it to others and I will probably do it again but maybe not for a little while. I have other places to explore first.
