Tassie Day 5 – Strahan to Cradle Mountain

Seeing as we had no accommodation booked for Cradle Mountain but that was our destination, we had a little sleep in until a more suitable business hour. Then checked out and headed to stop one of the day.
Henty Sand Dunes are just outside Strahan and can be done on ATV, tobaggan or on foot. Unfortunately we didn’t really have the time or the patience to hang around Strahan long enough to return these things or wait around for others. The dunes are really cool though and totally worth the visit. If you have the space maybe bring your own body board.

After the Dunes we stopped in a little town called Zeehan which has absolutely nothing but we needed to use their reception seeing as my phone had none the whole time we were in Strahan. Accommodation booked, Tullah Lakeside Lodge which was just a few towns further right on the edge of a beautiful lake. We did all the needed paperwork here then grabbed some lunch before moving on to spend the afternoon in Cradle Mountain.

Once at Cradle Mountain we had a few hours to kill before our tassie devil tour so we decided to do a 3 hour circuit to Dove Canyon and a waterfall. The trail was half boardwalk half climbing through the scrub which was pretty interesting although fellow walkers probably thought Erin and I were nuts in shorts.

At around 4.45 we headed to the Devils @ Cradle center to explore and do our feeding tour. This was pretty cool and if you’re like me and have only ever seen a glimpse of a tassie devil at your local zoo usually hiding then it’s worth it.
Our devil tour ended at almost 7pm so we ended up having dinner at the peppers resort next door before driving the 30mins-ish back to Tullah to our hotel for the night.
