Day 7 – Icefields Parkway

Today we did our usual routine of getting up, getting ready, having toast from the hotel restaurant and then heading on our way. Except today we had to gather our things and check out cause we were headed to Banff!

We got underway around 9am and our first stop along the Icefields parkway was Sunwapta Falls. We didn’t spend very long here as the falls are right next to the parking lot so it was time to continue on.
We stopped at various places along the way including the Columbian Icefields glacier, Bow Lake and a few other viewing stops.

Once we passed the turn off to Lake Louise we exited the highway in search of Johnston Canyon which turned out to be an extremely popular spot. Luckily there was a cafe here because it was getting into the afternoon by this point and we were starving. Erin had a soup with salad and I had a BLAT sandwich with chips, yum. The walk to the upper canyon is around 2.7km and quite easy along the little catwalk.

After Johnston Canyon we headed to Banff to check into our hotel The Banff International. We were glad to see we were right across the road from an IGA and right in the heart of everything. After dropping everything off at our room we had been dying to do some laundry so we gathered our dirty washing and spent a long time getting that done. While waiting for the dryer we went up the road to a place called PARK for dinner. Fish tacos for me and focaccia for Erin, delish!
Finally it was relax time. We collected our laundry and went back to our room to bed.
