It’s been a while since I’ve had a weekend in Sydney doing what I do best.. Eating. So I thought what better time then the June long weekend, 3 days of chilling sounds great.
I left work at 2pm on Friday and caught a greyhound bus from Canberra up to Sydney Central station which wasn’t a bad journey, I just watched movies. Once I got to Sydney we caught the train to my friends place in Ashfield to drop off my things and head back into the city for Vivid. Dinner tonight.. Beef Pho from Pho Ha in Ashfield. This was pretty good. After walking around Circular Quay, the Botanical Gardens and The Rocks (amazing little area of old buildings and restaurants if you’re ever in the area) we decided it was dessert time. Royal Coppenhagen Ice Cream was the best choice seeing as I am lactose intolerant and they had an amazing Lychee Sorbet. Yum!! After our ice cream it was home time.
We delayed a lot Saturday morning but that’s okay seeing us we had not much planned and our day basically consisted of eating and shopping. We had lunch at New Shanghai Chinese Restaurant in Ashfield which was pretty good and expected to be seeing as every time I walk past there is a huge line. After lunch we spent most the day at Parramatta Westfield Mall which is huge and took us hours to look through. For dinner we ended up at Manmaruya Japanese in Ashfield. Again it was good but again I didn’t take any pictures, we’ve all seen sushi and Chinese food haha.
Sunday morning we woke up planning to check out a cute little place called The Picnic in Burwood. Arriving around midday there was a wait so we left our name and number and headed across the road to kill time at Burwoods Westfield shopping mall. The place was cute, located in the middle of a park with the option for take away and the supply of picnic blankets to sit and wait or sit and eat. We came back when they said our table was ready, I think the wait was around 30-40mins. We ordered a schnitzel and two burgers aswell as a hot chocolate and two smoothies. Not bad food but great service and reasonable prices. Afterwards we did a little more shopping before heading back home to relax until dinner.
For dinner we found this amazing Italian restaurant in Summerhill called Andiamo’s Trattoria which was a cute little place and again pretty reasonable prices. We ordered 3 different types of pasta; Crema Pollo, Marinara in a napoletana sauce and a Marinara in a white wine, garlic and chilli sauce. All 3 dishes were yummy and I would definitely go back. After dinner we had a few drinks and headed to Marquee nightclub in the Star Casino for their long weekend rnb night.
Monday morning was a struggle after our late night last night (late morning actually, we didn’t make it home until 6am after meeting some hilarious Irish guys and having kebabs with them at the casino). We aimed to make it to Marigold Yum Cha in Sydney’s Haymarket by midday which we achieved but the line was huge being a public holiday. After finally being seated and stuffing our little faces with amazing dumpling goodness it was time to hop back on the bus and get back to Canberra.
