Today was mine and mums turn to accompany dad on his fishing endeavor while my brother and his fiancé spent the day at the beach. So we started the day at 4.30am and made sure to be on our way by 5.00am to Lake Proserpine / Peter Faust Dam which is about a 30 minute drive out of Airlie Beach. We arrived just on sunrise which was beautiful so we dropped the boat in the water, park the car and zoomed off into the forest of dead trees in search of barramundi.
Unfortunately by around 11am we still had not caught a single fish so we decided to call it a morning and try again later.
After loading up our boat and driving back towards Airlie Beach we stopped for a quick BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato sandwich) for lunch then continued back to our apartment. Seeing as it’s our last full day and no one had one near the beautiful infinity pool that came with out accommodation we knew it was something we just had to do. We grabbed our swimmers and towel and jumped in. What a beautiful pool! Exhausted we went back upstairs for a nap to refuel our energy before tonight’s fishing.
About an hour later I woke up, got my stuff together and off we went again. By this point we were all so tired that we had to stop for coffee or we knew we would make it through the next few hours.
Once we reached Lake Proserpine it was around 5.30pm and there were already plenty of boats in the water. We dropped ours in the water and joined the wait for a big barramundi. A few people around us caught barramundi which got our hopes up high and all 3 of us had rods in the water. Unfortunately time went fast and when we realized it was almost 10pm and we were the last boat left in the water we decided to call it quits. Damn, no barramundi this trip.
We loaded the boat back up and did the drive back to Airlie Beach again with the hope of finding dinner at almost 11pm on a Thursday. Of course our options were McDonalds or Dominos Pizza, both equally is unhealthy but what can you do so we settled with a few spicy chicken pieces from Dominos.
Finally back at the hotel it was time to pack up and go to bed ready to check out and start the drive home in the morning. Night.
