Day 7 – The Great Barrier Reef & Whitsundays (Airlie Beach)

After the exhausting day we had yesterday I was not impressed that I had to wake up this morning at 6.30 but ahh well, gotta sacrifice a bit of sleep to see something amazing. We got ready then headed across the road to the bus stop ready for our 7.20am pick up by GSL Aviation.

On arrival at Whitsundays airport we boarded our little 8 person propeller plane and Ratt volunteered to ride up front with the pilot so Mon and I sat behind her. In our approx 1 hour scenic flight we saw the famous heart reef, hill inlet, daydream island, Hamilton island, Whitsundays island and all the other surround islands. What an amazing tour! And what a view.. Loved it! Incredible!

Once our flight was over we were collected and taken over to the Marina where we checked in and got ready to board our speed boat with Ocean Rafting. The tour consisted of several stops, first was snorkeling amongst the most amazing island scenery for around an hour (some nice fish too), next stop was a bush walk to a lookout of Hill Inlet – incredible! We even got to hang on the beach and go in the water, I’m telling you the pictures you see are real.. The water is actually that blue, the sand that white and the place is really that amazing! Last stop was Whitehaven beach for a buffet lunch consisting of pasta, chicken, salad etc and for some chill time. We even saw two goannas which was cool but a bunch of loud annoying Asian tourists ran after them to take photos and scared them off.. So annoying!
At 3.15pm we boarded our boat again for a quick tour around the rest of the Whitsundays islands before arriving back at the marina at 4.15pm.

The girls are I grabbed a complimentary shuttle bus to Main Street where we shopped and sat by the beach for a little while until it was time for dinner. We decided on a place called Shipwrecked which overlooked the water and is where Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie ate when they visited Airlie beach. Ratt and I ordered pasta, Mon ordered fish, Ratt got some cocktails and I got a cider and a starter of oysters.. It was quite a delicious meal.

After dinner we walked back to our hotel when we noticed no one was in the pool so Ratt and I thought why not, it was amazing, the water was warm and it’s a big beautiful pool. After finally having enough for the day it was back to our room for showers and packing before bed.

Unfortunately it’s back to Canberra tomorrow, very sad. Goodnight xx
